All Breasts Are Beautiful
Breasts come in a wonderful variety of shapes and sizes, and we here at Everviolet think that’s something to celebrate. Each body reveals a unique story and set of life experiences, and our breasts are part of that narrative.
Inclusivity Note: While we use the word “women” throughout, we recognize that people of all genders can be impacted by breast changes and experiences.
Separate from health-related issues (like unexplained lumps, discharge or sudden changes that require medical attention), variance in breast shape is part of what defines us as individuals. No two people have exactly the same breasts – even our left and right sides aren’t identical twins. In a world where we can be tempted to compare, let’s reassure ourselves: all breast shapes are beautiful and perfectly normal.
There’s No One “Normal” Breast Shape
As of 2025, body positivity and inclusivity have only grown, but some myths persist. It’s as important as ever to bust the myth of one “normal” boob shape. Breasts are like snowflakes and fingerprints: each unique, each deserving of love. Below, we highlight some of the most common breast shapes, as well as lingerie and fit recommendations for each. We may see ourselves in one of these descriptions – or in a mix of a few. (It’s common to have characteristics of several types at once!) If our shape isn’t listed, rest assured, it’s still perfectly ours.
Common Breast Shapes (All Beautiful)
Round Breasts — Round breasts have almost equal amounts of tissue at the top and bottom, creating a balanced fullness. This shape often has a naturally perky, circular appearance. Many bras are designed with rounder shapes in mind, and our Vela Bra is an ideal fit due to the even distribution of support throughout the cup.

Asymmetrical — Asymmetrical breasts are defined as when one breast is a different size or shape than the other. This is extremely common – in fact, it’s more common for women to have some asymmetry than to be perfectly symmetrical. Often, the difference is small (maybe one breast is a bit fuller or a half-cup size larger), though for some it can be more noticeable. Unless a sudden change in symmetry occurs (in which case we always recommend consulting with a doctor), asymmetry is typically just a normal part of development. More than half of all women have uneven breasts, and many don’t even realize it until they go for a bra fitting! Our breasts are sisters, not twins, remember? We can use bra inserts or padding on one side to make us feel more balanced, but we don’t have to. Lots of women simply embrace the difference, as it's a reminder that human bodies are wonderfully unique.
👉 Try the Astrid Bralette – with soft cups and internal pockets. It accommodates asymmetry beautifully, providing a smooth, uniform look under clothing.
Athletic — Athletic breasts tend to be wider, more compact and sit higher on the chest. This is due to the presence of more muscle and less fatty tissue, as muscle tone can actually compress the appearance of breast tissue. Athletic breasts are strong and beautiful! Sometimes people with athletic builds worry their breasts aren’t “feminine” enough – but athletic breasts often maintain perkiness, since muscle offers natural support. Win-win!
👉 Our Maia Bra offers wire-free support with soft structure for athletic builds.
Bell Shape — Bell-shaped breasts have a narrower top and a fuller, rounder bottom, much like the shape of a bell. We might identify with this shape if our breasts are slim at the top and then become heavier or more voluminous toward the bottom. Bell shapes are especially common among women with larger cup sizes (since more tissue naturally settles toward the bottom).
👉 Explore the Vela Bra – ideal for fuller bottoms with wireless support on the bottom of the cups.
Close-Set — Close-set breasts are the opposite of side-set: they sit very near to each other, with little or virtually no gap in between. If our breasts are touching or nearly touching at the center of our chest, we likely have close-set breasts. This shape can naturally create more pronounced cleavage, since the breasts are already pushing towards each other. This shape might make bra fittings a little tricky, but there are plenty of options out there.
👉 Try the Astrid Bralette with Lace with built-in ruching down the center front, to help define each side more fully.
Conical — Conical breasts are cone-shaped – they have a pointed appearance and a narrower base, rather than being rounded. This shape is often seen in smaller cup sizes or during puberty (breasts can also start out cone-shaped and then round out later). Conical breasts can be associated with a condition called tuberous breasts (where the breast has a very narrow base), which can make bra shopping a little more challenging.
👉 Try our Astrid Bralette, which stretches evenly across the chest, offering softness, adjustability and the utmost in comfort.
East-West — East-west breasts describe a shape where the nipples point outward, away from the center of the chest – think of one nipple pointing “east” and the other “west.” With east-west breasts, we might notice a bit more space between our breasts and that each nipple faces a slightly opposite direction. This is a normal orientation for many people. If we have east-west breasts, we can choose bras that encourage a centered look.

Relaxed — Relaxed breasts have a looser, softer appearance, often with nipples that point toward the ground. This shape typically evolves when breast tissue isn’t as firm, which can be both due to genetics or take place over time as skin loses elasticity. Women who have breastfed or experienced significant weight changes may notice a more relaxed shape. Truth be told: gravity will impact all of our bodies . Boobs that once were very perky might become more relaxed as the years pass — and that is completely natural. Sagging is not a flaw — it’s a normal part of life and aging. It's possible to have relaxed breasts at a younger age as well, if our tissue is less dense or more stretched.
👉 The Astrid Bralette with Lace offers gentle shaping, smoothing and stretching with flattering, feminine softness.
Flat — After a mastectomy, many people choose or are not able to have breast reconstruction due to skin weakened by radiation treatment. More and more women are opting for aesthetic flat closure, often referred to as “going flat.” This can be an empowering choice, testament to the fact that even without breasts, we are still feminine and strong. With this chest type, support may not be needed, but many elect to wear soft, non-molded bras for comfort and coverage. Pocketed styles can also hold prosthetics, if desired.
👉 Our Maia Cami stretches comfortably across the chest and pairs well with prosthetics.
Side-Set — Side-set breasts (also called wide-set) refer to breasts that have a larger gap between them. In this shape, the breasts sit more toward the sides of the chest, leaving a wider space in the middle (the opposite of close-set breasts). Often, side-set breasts also have nipples that point a bit outward (so there can be overlap with the east-west category).
👉 Try our Vela Bra - a plunge style bra that helps to bring the breasts closer together visually and provide side support.
Slender — Slender breasts (sometimes called tubular) are slim and somewhat long in shape. They have a narrower width, so they don’t project as much forward, and are less full, especially up top. Often, slender breasts have nipples that point downward. This shape can be something a woman is born with, or it can become more noticeable after weight loss or breastfeeding (when there’s less volume in the breast).
👉 For slender breasts, we recommend styles with adjustable straps like our Astrid Bralette with Lace or Vela Bra.
Teardrop — Teardrop breasts are, just as they sound, shaped like teardrops – slightly fuller at the bottom than the top. They have a gentle slope, with the nipple usually pointing slightly downward or centered lower on the breast. This shape is very common — many women’s breasts naturally have a bit more fullness lower down. Teardrop-shaped breasts can change over time (for example, pregnancy can temporarily make them rounder before they may return to a teardrop shape).
👉 Wear our Portia Wireless Bra that allows for adjustability and enables our shoulders to support breasts with bottom fullness.
Foobs (Reconstructed Breasts) – After a mastectomy, many women may choose reconstruction using implants or their own tissue. These are often affectionately called “foobs” — short for “fake boobs” — a lighthearted, empowering term used within the breast cancer community. Foobs may look rounder, firmer or sit higher than natural tissue. Because they don’t compress like natural breasts, soft cup or wireless bras are often the most comfortable.
👉 Try the Astrid Bralette – designed with pocketed cups and gentle support post-surgery.

How Breast Shape Changes Over Time
Breast shape isn’t fixed — it’s completely normal for it to change over time. Hormones, pregnancy, weight shifts, aging and medical treatments all play a role.
- Hormonal cycles can cause temporary swelling and sensitivity.
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding often lead to size changes and shifts in fullness.
- Weight fluctuations may make breasts appear fuller, smaller or more relaxed.
- Aging and gravity naturally soften and stretch breast tissue over time.
- Surgeries or treatments like mastectomy, lumpectomy or radiation can also reshape the chest.
No matter the cause, change is natural. Our breasts may evolve, and every stage deserves love and acceptance.
