According to the US Women’s Health and Cancer Rights Act (WHCRA) of 1998, it is federally mandated that all sponsored group health plans, insurance companies, individual policies, and health maintenance organizations offering medical and surgical benefits with respect to a mastectomy must also offer coverage for reconstruction. This coverage includes prosthetics, implants, post-surgical garments, and bras used throughout the healing process, and in the case of those who do not undergo reconstructive surgery, the lifetime of the patient.
While Everviolet does not process or accept insurance payments directly, we encourage you to consult your physician and insurance provider to learn about your specific coverage. Most physicians will provide a prescription for a certain quantity of garments/prosthetics per year. You can then buy what you need and seek reimbursement from your insurance provider.
Note: The Affordable Care Act that went into effect in 2010 did not change any provisions of the WHCRA for plans that offered coverage before 2010.
